SLAMPP 1.1 is released

Through this posting I proudly announce you the newest version of SLAMPP. This version contains some new applications, features and hopefully will fix the known bugs reported so far to me. Furthermore, I consider this release as a maintenance release over the previous one, so let’s hope all things will run smoothly.

As I only tested it on my own machines which only are equipped with IDE drives, it is possible that some people would have problems using SLAMPP, but I will do as best as I can to solve the problems together with you. Just report what difficulties you have and don’t forget to mention on which machine you tried to run the SLAMPP on. SLAMPP uses kernel which supports SCSI, SATA and RAID, so it will detect your drives automatically. If it doesn’t, just check the the rc.modules under /etc/rc.d/ directory and uncomment things you think you have on your machines which are still commented there. Reboot the computer after that. Or, you can always have a look whether kernel supports your hardware built-in or as modules in .config file under /usr/src/linux directory. If it is built as module, then just do ‘modprobe’ things.

As noticed, the size of latest release now is a little bit bigger than the previous release. That’s because I added some office and multimedia applications which I thought might be useful if you carry SLAMPP on daily basis. Of course you might disagree with this decision and therefore please accept my apology for doing this. To compensate the whole thing, a ‘lite‘ version of SLAMPP will be available soon. It will contain the necessary servers and have Xfce or Fluxbox for desktop environment.

All information about the new release can be found on wiki.

That will be all for now. I hope this release of SLAMPP can meet (most of) your expectations. Let me know if you have something to say. :)

Have a nice weekend!
